03/15/2018 Meeting Minutes

Quail Tracks

Southern AZ Quail Forever 15 Mar 18 meeting minutes.
Meeting took place at Steak Out in Sonoita.  We had 14 people attend including a G&F rep.  Social started at 6:15 with formal meeting start at 7:00.  We did not have a quorum of chapter officers with only 3 attending (4 is required for a quorum per out by-laws).
Agenda:
-Treasurer; we did not get a treasurer update as Linda was pulled away by a neighbors emergency.  We have about $35K in the bank.
-Habitat; Jim Littlejohn gave us an update on some coordination has has done with Rana Tucker the new small game biologist in Southern AZ.  We hope to have a short meeting with Tom at our youth hunt to approve a habitat project.
-New QF Western Regional Director;  Al Eiden who recently moved from AZGFD to become the Western Region Director for QF/PF.  He is a trained biologist who plans to continue residing in AZ (the previous director lived in MT).  He knows a lot about AZ habitat and access issues and has promised better communication from national to the chapters.
-We reviewed proposals to make donations to the QF Legislative Action Fund and No Child Left Indoors.  LAF is important to support the farm bill which supports hunting and habitat plus acres to land and NCLI supports youth outdoor eduction.  A motion was made and seconded to donate $3K to LAF and $1K to NCLI and a vote was taken which unanimously passed but is was put on hold until a quorum of chapter officers voted.  I have since had one of the non attending officers vote affirmatively giving us a quorum.  In return for the $4K in donations we will get 2 shotguns worth $2K retail which will be auctioned at next years banquet.

-Our youth/novice hunt is scheduled Sat 24 Mar at Maternity Wells about 7 miles north of Sonoita.  If you have interest in volunteering or bringing a youth please contact Nick Besenick.  There will be a dinner and camp out for volunteers the night prior.  We are buying prizes for participants and buying BB guns to use as the G&F setup we normally borrow is not available.
-Highway cleanup;  Our next highway cleanup is scheduled at 7:30 on Sat 14 Apr and will be led by Jim Littlejohn.  Meet at the entrance to Hog Canyon.  We will have breakfast at the Sonoita Fire Station afterward.
-Elections will be handled per our by-laws with nominations, acceptance of nominations, second of nominations and then a ballot via email.  As we do not have a volunteer to serve as the chapter secretary, I will pick up the role to support our upcoming elections.  Chapter officers will turnover 1 Jul 18.  For current chapter members you will get an email from me on 19 Mar starting the process.  If you do not get this email and believe you are a current member please let me know.  My larger email list includes some non members.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30.
