Earth Day was started in 1970, after a devasting oil spill in America brought environmental issues to the forefront of public consciousness— SAQF would like to continue to improve our habitat by reducing erosion in the Coronado National Forest.

Time: 9 AM-1PM

Location: * Hwy 92, S of Sierra Vista

*Just pass MM 334, turn right at Coronado National Memorial sign

                  * Go past Visitor Center [ is worth time to stop ], up mountain past Montezuma Pass LookOut [ views are amazing + there are RR ] and start down the mountain

Restoration Work: The project you will be assisting with is a project funded jointly by the National Forest Foundation and SAQF to improve the quail habitat. The Watershed Crew for Borderlands Restoration will show you how to build rock structures to slow water flow, increase infiltration, trap sediment and establish vegetation —this process mitigates on-site erosion.

What to bring:

  • Plenty of water
  • Close-toed shoes
  • Long pants
  • Sun protection including : wide brimmed hat, long-sleeved shirt, and sunscreen
  • Work gloves
  • Snacks and packed lunch

Safety: Please be aware that temperatures are on the rise !  Be sure to drink plenty of water while working and take breaks when you need them. Warming temperatures also mean that encounters with snakes are possible, so watch where you place your feet and hands. If you see a snake, alert others and move your work elsewhere !
